Lay members of the United Methodist Church are called to be active in spreading the news of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The structure of the United Methodist Church allows for this to be accomplished in a variety of ways as laypersons seek to share out of their own faith experiences.
Lay leaders
Lay leaders are elected as the primary respresentative of the laity in their local churches.
Each district also selects at least one local church member to serve as the district lay leader. These district lay leaders work together as the Conference Board of Laity to support local churches, lay speakers, pastoral leadership and conference leadership in ministry.
Lay speakers
Lay speakers have received training to help lead the church in worship and through small groups.
Certified Lay Ministry program
A Certified Lay Minister (CLM) is a lay person who serves a small membership church.
Board of Laity
The Board of Laity serves a voice for local church members at Annual Conference and provides leadership for activities throughout the western two-thirds of Kansas.
