Leadership Development

Leadership Development

Responding to the Council of Bishops’ Call to Action, the Kansas Area has taken steps to strengthen leadership development and put more emphasis on the creation of vital congregations. Staff in both conferences are being aligned with the goal having of more vital congregations in the state.

“Our focus as a conference, and really as an area, is on making disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world,” said Kansas Area Bishop Scott Jones. “Excellent leadership is needed to ensure we are giving this goal our best effort.”

The Kansas Area is engaged in several different projects to develop leadership skills among laity and clergy in the United Methodist Church. These efforts are coordinated by the area director of Clergy and Congregational Excellence.

Among these efforts are:

  • Vital Congregations
  • ABIDE
  • L3 Leadership Incubator
  • Leadership and Faith Transforming Communities
  • Certified Lay Ministry Program
  • Lay Speaking
  • Transition into Ministry
  • Continuing Education events
  • Residency Program for ministry candidates
