God's Creation Renewed: A call to hope and action

At its November meeting, the United Methodist Council of Bishops issued a call to all United Methodists to change our way of being in the world to effect a change in the world. Pandemic poverty and disease, environmentla degradation and a world full of weapons and violance are the wages of our sins against God's creation. But there is hope if we chagne our ways, the 69 United Methodist bishops said in a pastoral letter the council asked to be read in churches during Advent. The letter is found on a special website for this initiative at www.hopeandaction.org

Churches can continue the conversation during Lent with a Bible study. The Bible study can be downloaded from the Hope and Action website.

Rethink Church Lenten Resources

This Lenten season, you are invited to go on A Journey to Hope as we travel with Jesus to the cross, discovering along the way that Hope can be found even as we encounter some of life’s most difficult circumstances. United Methodist Communications is offering preaching resources for Lent from Ash Wednesday through Easter and including both Maundy Thursday and Good Friday.

While this series will encourage all persons along the faith journey, it is written specifically with the 18-34 age group and “seeker” in mind. The Message translation is used, keeping scripture easily accessible to all audiences. By addressing real life circumstances along the way (i.e., relationships, self-esteem, work, temptation, money problems, suffering and death), those on the journey learn how faith in Christ is relevant to everyday life and how having a faith community can make all the difference.
