HAYSVILLE—In an effort to “rethink church,” the Haysville United Methodist Women have coordinated efforts to help a homeless family each month this past year. The families were in crisis because of job loss, fire, abuse or an extraordinary expense beyond the means of the family’s limited income.

Although the UMW processed the needs and created a UMW fund to help these families, the entire congregation contributed labor, furniture, clothing, financial aid and prayer.

In addition, the UMW purchased or collected from members underwear and sweat pants and delivered them to all the elementary schools in the area for emergency use. A need for jeans also was brought to the attention of the church, and many bags of used and new jeans were donated.

The congregation is reaching out to the community and has developed a reputation for caring. The members work closely with the Haysville school district, which is often the first to hear of a family in need.

Even non-members are donating various items through Haysville UMC.
