Chapman UMC rebuilding underway following 2008 tornado
Written: 6/1/2009 CHAPMAN—Progress is being made on the Chapman United Methodist Church building and parsonage, which were both damaged by the June 11, 2008, tornado. The sanctuary of the church has been razed. Roof and window repairs have been completed on the fellowship hall and education wing, mostly through volunteer labor and donations given to the church. The new parsonage has been completed. The congregation authorized the building committee to proceed with plans for rebuilding the rest of the church. The church rebuilding study committee is meeting regularly with an architect to develop proposals for the new sanctuary, offices and kitchen. Worship services are being held in the fellowship hall, and attendance has increased from a year ago. “There is a nice spirit in the church, and new members are ready to unite with our congregation,” said Mary Anne Trickle, wife of the church’s pastor. “We are remaining optimistic.” |
